When I became a US citizen, an NPR reporter asked me why I wanted to become a citizen. I said that I wanted to enjoy the democracy of this country. That was in 2019 . I had never thought the democracy in this country could be in jeopardy. Since this risk became apparent, I have been working to help elect candidates who defend democracy. I am hungry for culture and sunshine, and was heartbroken with the presidential elections. I could go live in another country that would give me at least a lot of sunshine, but I can’t let this country crumble. I think things will improve as long as we keep anchored in the moral values of the democracy. I was not born here but I have lived more than half of my adult life here. I can’t jump off board. I will continue defending the democracy in this country.
