Eco-friendly gardening activities for kids

Gardening can be a fun, educational, and eco-friendly activity for kids of all ages.

Last April, a gardening center near my home had several activities for children to celebrate Earth Day. On April 21, I attended a potting session for children.

I witnessed the kid’s and parents’ happy faces as they selected a plant and decorated their pot.

All walked happily to the car with their new plants.

Involving children in Eco-Friendly Gardening (EFG) activities is crucial for several reasons:

  • To learn why it is necessary to protect the environment and the impact of their actions.
  • Gardening provides practical experience and knowledge about biology, ecology, and sustainable practices.
  • Physical activity in the garden promotes physical health.
  • Growing and eating fresh produce supports good nutrition.
  • Caring for plants teaches responsibility and the importance of patience as children see the fruits of their labor over time.
  • Gardening encourages creative thinking and curiosity about the natural world.
